Types of computers

Computer can be classified as 4 types

(i)                  Super computer

(ii)                Mainframe computer

(iii)               Mini computer

(iv)              Micro computer

These are classified on the basis of size and power of computer.

Super computer

Super computer is the most powerful compute for its performance and data processing . These computer are used for research . NASA also uses super computers for lanching space , controlling them etc . Super computer are very expensive and very large in size . Super computers are used in atomic energy commission , earth quake studies , weather for casting , nuclear weapons testing etc .

Mainframe computer

Main frame computer are response very quickly . Many large farms and govt. organizations uses main frame computer . Main frame computers are large in size and it can store large amount of data . Banks , educational institute , Insurance companies use main frame computer to store clients records , Business transactions etc .

Mini computer

Mini computers are small machines that can be accommodated on a table . Processing speed and storage capacity of a mini computer is less than super computer and main frame computer . Department of large company can use mini computer for a specific purpose . A production dept. can use mini computer for monitoring production process .

Micro computer

Desktop computers , laptops , tables , smart phones are all micro computers . Micro computers are widely use . Cast of Micro comp. is very less than all other computers . Micro computers are used for entertainment , education , communication etc . Manufactures of micro comp. are Dell , Samsung , Hp , Apple etc .



There are three basic kinds of computers based on the hardware structure and  physical quantities given to a computer.

1. Analog computer

2. Digital Computer

3. Hybrid Computer
